Colonel Edward J. Hagerty is the mobilization assistant to the Commander, Air Force Office of Special Investigations, a Field Operating Agency headquartered at Andrews Air Force Base, Md. This office provides specialized criminal, counterintelligence, anti-terrorism, and investigative support to Air Force commanders worldwide through eight regional (wing-level) offices, seven squadrons, and 220 detachments and operating locations.

The colonel entered the Air Force in 1974 and served on active duty until 1977 in the Electronic Intelligence career field assigned to the National Security Agency. He entered the Air Force Reserve in 1980, and was assigned to AFOSI in 1982. Colonel Hagerty received his commission in 1984, and completed Officer Training School the following year. He has served in numerous positions with AFOSI field units, and on headquarters and region staffs. He was recalled to active duty for one year in 2002, and was assigned to the Air Force Special Investigations Academy during its transition to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. He was mobilized for thirty days as the commander, 24th Field Investigations Squadron, Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar in 2004, and for six months during 2005 as the commander, AFOSI, 2nd Field Investigations Region. Colonel Hagerty was subsequently appointed to create and lead AFOSI's Ruthless Raven counter-narcotics smuggling task force. Colonel Hagerty was released from an extended tour of active duty in September 2006 after serving as the Ruthless Raven task force commander and the director of Project Task Force (PROTAF).

Colonel Hagerty retired from the Philadelphia Police Department in 1993.
