Removal from the Retired Reserve:  A member of the Retired Reserve may not be removed from such a status unless (AFI 36-2115, Assignments within the Reserve Components):

Transfer to the Retired Reserve was because of a physical disability, and the AFRC surgeon general determines the physical condition is no longer disqualifying, the Airman did not receive disability severance pay and is not entitled to retired pay. Then, the assignment may be effected to a unit or individual mobilization augmentee position if the Airman is otherwise eligible.

Their service is indispensable, they did not receive disability severance pay, and the removal has been approved by the secretary of the Air Force or designee.

A discharge is requested (enlisted Airmen) or a resignation is submitted (officers).

Recall to Active Duty:  As a member of the Retired Reserve, Airmen are subject to recall to active duty during a national emergency affecting the security of the United States.

While every effort will be made to give as much advance notice as possible, the military situation might require that Airmen report quickly. In the event Airmen are recalled, they can greatly reduce the resulting turmoil if they make contingency plans to meet personal and business obligations.

The following guidance is provided to assist :

    -- Retain military uniforms.

-- Ensure contingency plans are made for the turnover of responsibility for dependent care, household goods, business and personal obligations. Arrangements must cover all possible situations; both short and long term, and must be sufficiently detailed.

-- Maintain a complete set of pertinent documents in a secure place. This set  should include, but is not limited to, the following:

    -- A current will.

-- Permanent file of military documents.

-- Birth certificates - Spouse and dependents.

    -- Marriage certificate.

-- Health records - Airman, spouse and dependents.

-- Income tax returns - last four years.

-- Social Security Numbers - Airman, spouse and dependents.

-- Real estate deeds - mortgage and insurance.

-- Insurance papers - life and health.

-- Bank accounts - type, number, and location.

    -- Stocks and bonds.

In the event Airmen incur a medical condition that would prevent them from serving on active duty that is not already a matter of record, i.e., non-service connected disability, they should obtain verification of that disability from a private physician or Veterans Affairs hospital. Provide a copy of the verification of medical disability to HQ AFRC RMG/Det 15, 233 N. Houston Road, Suite 131A, Warner Robins GA 31093.

In the event of temporary disability, it is not required to make it a matter of record unless it becomes a permanent disability. If Airmen have a temporary disability, and are recalled, they may be eligible for a delay for deferment according to the rules in effect at the time.

Inquiries regarding mobilization status should be addressed to HQ ARPC/XPC, Personnel Readiness Division, 6760 E Irvington Pl, Denver CO 80280-7550, or 800-525-0102.

Military Title:  The correct title for Retired Reserve personnel is: Colonel John D. Doe, USAFR, Retired. The current signature is: John D. Doe, Colonel, USAFR, Retired.
