Headquarters Individual Reservist Readiness and Integration Organization, in coordination with the Readiness Management Group, began the restructure of their existing 15 detachments from to seven primary detachments and eight operating locations, August 25.

The transition and restructure is part of the ongoing shift of IR management from RMG to HQ RIO and is expected to be complete by Sept. 12.

RMG Detachments 3 and 8 transitioned first and became RIO Detachment 6, MacDill AFB, Florida, on Aug. 26. The remaining RMG detachments will transition from Sept. 8-12.

The transition from RMG to HQ RIO is a result of Air Force Reserve Command's decision to consolidate personnel transactional work at HQ Air Reserve Personnel Center, Buckley AFB, Colorado. However, not everything RMG accomplished could be incorporated in the move to ARPC, so HQ RIO was established.

HQ RIO officially stood up, Feb. 1, as its own command under ARPC. Since that time, RMG and HQ RIO have worked closely to ensure a smooth transition, with a focus on maintaining IR mission-readiness.

"This was a deliberate transition to ensure the transition was as seamless as possible for our Individual Reservists," said Col. Dawn M. Wallace, the final RMG commander.
Col. Christopher E. Cronce, Commander, HQ RIO, echoed that sentiment during his first commander's call:

"We need to continue to ask ourselves 'How can we make this transition more successful, and what can we do to make this process better?'"

In addition to the detachment restructure and the RMG to HQ RIO organizational change, the Base Individual Mobilization Augmentee Administrator Offices closed during this time, a result of the Air Force's fiscal year 2015 force structure decisions. The full transition of responsibilities from RMG to HQ RIO is expected to be complete by Sept. 30.
"There's no doubt we are going through a great amount of change," said Cronce. "But together, I am confident that we will adapt to these changes, thrive in this new environment and continue to succeed."

Below are the details of the detachment merger:
  • RMG Detachment 10 became RIO Detachment 2, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii;
  • RMG Detachments 4, 16 and 25 became RIO Detachment 3, Peterson AFB, Colorado;
