COLONEL CATHERINE "KATE" KLEMAN

Colonel Kate Kleman is the Mobilization Assistant to the Director of Integrated Air, Space, Cyberspace and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Operations, Headquarters Air Force Space Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. The directorate is responsible for organizing, training, and equipping Air Force Space Command units for globally integrated space, cyberspace and ISR operations and for assimilating capabilities into the operational level of war. Mission areas include missile warning, space control, spacelift and range operations, satellite command and control, nuclear event detection, airfield operations, offensive cyber operations, defensive cyber operations, Department of Defense Information Network operations, and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance. The directorate executes an annual operations and maintenance budget of one billion dollars.

Colonel Kleman has served as a military assistant to the Secretary of Defense and Air Force Congressional Liaison. Her former space operations duties include Individual Mobilization Augmentee to the 460th Space Wing, the National Reconnaissance Office and space surveillance at Eglin AFB, Fla. As a Space Operations Analyst at the Pentagon, she has performed key studies on Air Force intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, information warfare, and space programs.

Colonel Kleman graduated in 1989 from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Space Operations. In 1994, she obtained a Master of Science degree in Space Operations from the Air Force Institute of Technology, Dayton, Ohio, were she did pioneering thesis work applying military pattern recognition technologies to automated breast cancer diagnosis. And, in 2014, Colonel Kleman graduated with distinction from Advanced Joint Professional Military Education, Joint Staff College, Norfolk, Va.
