U.S. Air Force Airmen and Drug Enforcement Administration personnel load pallets containing hazardous narcotics onto a U.S. Air Force C-5M Super Galaxy at March Air Reserve Base, California, May 19, 2026. The joint mission involved the record-breaking aerial transport of approximately $5 billion worth of narcotics to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, for destruction through incineration. The Air Force’s strategic airlift support enabled the transport of the narcotics by air after the closure of incineration facilities in California required the materials to be moved out of state for disposal.
