Subject matter experts from the Air Reserve Personnel Center, the Air Force Reserve Center and the Readiness Management Group gathered at ARPC last week to streamline Reserve Promotions, Awards and AGR Review Board processes.

ARPC will host eight total Business Process Review events that ultimately help streamline personnel actions for all Airmen.

Business Process Review (BPR) events happen in two stages. In the first stage, subject matter experts from different organizations within AFRC/A1 create "As-Is" process maps (flowcharts) to document how personnel services are currently delivered to its customers.

During the second stage, the SMEs share ideas on how similar processes can be consolidated into a single service delivery model. During these "To-Be" sessions, participants also look for process improvement opportunities ensuring the best customer service for Citizen Airmen.

BPR events are not a new concept for the Air Force Reserve. The Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century Program has used BPR events to help promote a culture of continuous improvements.

Unlike this BPR event, however, the focus of AFSO21 events is to "lean" existing processes rather than to consolidate multiple processes.

Despite their differences, there are many complementary aspects of both BPR efforts including an underlying focus on eliminating waste and improving performance over time.
