Cell phones vulnerable to spyware, tracking software Published Aug. 14, 2009 By ARPC Directorate of Communications and Information DENVER -- Background: Spy software is available for cell phones that permits: tapping calls, reading text messages, tracking movements/location "anywhere, anytime." Conversations can be picked up even though phone is not in use (conversation is picked up through speaker on phone). Spyware is illegal in U.S., but not other countries. High-end cell phones that include internet access and online capability are particularly vulnerable to spyware tapping. Prevention: Don't leave cell phone unattended. Install password on cell phone. Turn off cell phone and remove the battery when in secure areas. For more information, visit the AF Portal.
