Assignment Facilitators Added to Force Development Team Published Aug. 2, 2007 ARPC NOTAM 021 -- Commanders- Since becoming host for AF Reserve Force Development Teams in May 2006, ARPC has facilitated 24 Development Team events for 15 career fields, providing nearly 10,000 deliberate career and developmental education vectors to officers. Development Teams use the online Reserve Officer Development Plan (R-ODP) to provide deliberate counsel to their respective officers. So, what's being done with those vectors? Soon, assignment facilitators will be tested within ARPC's Directorate of Assignments to assist in making those vectors actionable where possible. Initially, we're starting with two of our more mature Development Teams, the civil engineer and intelligence career fields. The assignment facilitator will take part in their Development Team events, and will, in turn, help officers understand what opportunities are available and provide commanders a deeper candidate pool to choose from. In short, the facilitators are the "how" piece, matching the Airman's desire to the right position with respect to Development Team counsel and AFR mission needs. Keep in mind, we are NOT moving toward a mandatory assignment, mandatory rotation concept like active duty -- Airmen will not be forced to move; commanders retain their hiring decision authority. We stand by the Citizen Airman mantra. Again, I ask you to encourage your reservists to fill out their R-ODP at https://afrctools.afrc.af.mil/FDP/z_Career_Dev.asp. This plan is a vital communication tool used by the Development Teams to understand an officer's desires/constraints and the supervisor's recommendation to provide sound vectors. Force Development will not only sharpen our primary specialties, but will also help us prepare for tomorrow's wider requirements. For more information, call Lt. Col. Vince Bugeja, ARPC's Chief of Force Development, at 800-525-0102 and ask to be transferred to the Force Development Division. More to follow when he briefs at the September AFRC/CC conference. //Signed// ANN C. SHIPPY, Colonel, USAF HQ ARPC Commander
