Senior Master Sgt. Kelvin Walker, Superintendent, Reserve of the Air Force Selection Board Secretariat, is the ARPC Spotlight of the Week.

Sergeant Walker is from Sparta, Ga., and has been in the Air Force for nearly 27 years.  He enjoys golf, woodworking, fishing, camping and music.

What is your most memorable Air Force experience?

I was personally selected by Air Force Personnel Center leadership to stand up and instruct the PERSCO/MANPER-B certification courses for deploying members from USAFE to USEUCOM and USCENTCOM AORs.

Why did you join the Air Force?

For the education and travel. I have three degrees, I spent 15 years in Europe and visited 56 cities, and 13 countries throughout Africa and Asia.

If you could change one thing about the Air Force what would it be?

Level the career progression playing field among its components.

If you were not in the military, where would you be?

Very difficult question to answer. At 17, I ran from a small town in the deep south that had no challenging job prospects and zero upward mobility. I fear, that had I not joined the Air Force, I would have ended up in the same dead-end jobs and life situations as many of my friends that did not leave.

What would you like to do when you retire?

I will continue to give back to the Air Force in some capacity. It has given me so much and so many opportunities.
