Spring is here, and warmer weather is on its way. But as temperatures rise, so can the opportunities for safety mishaps. Here are some important spring safety reminders:

Motorcycle Safety

Did you know that fatal motorcycle mishaps double in spring? A common motorcycle accident involves young Airmen speeding on a sport bike during daylight hours. The accident typically results from carelessness and inexperience or lack of training.

Motorcyclists should be sure to wear the proper personal protective equipment when entering, riding on and exiting the installation.

New riders need to visit the ARPC Safety Office for a safety and policy brief.

Airmen on any type of orders must comply with AFI 91-207, The U.S. Air Force Traffic Safety Program, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All other riders, must wear identical personal protective equipment when entering, riding on and exiting the installation.

Driving while "intexticated"

Did you know that more than 50 percent of teen drivers admit to texting while driving? In fact, in some areas of the country the figures go as high as 86 percent. Law enforcement and auto insurance industry experts now claim texting is as dangerous as drinking and driving. Consider the potentially deadly consequences of texting while driving and remain safe while on the road.

National Poison Prevention Week

National Poison Prevention Week ends March 21. This week highlights the dangers of household poisonings. Homeowners should take the time to look around their homes and secure all dangerous household products that can be easily accessed by young children. The National Poison Center hotline is 1-800-222-1222.
