Tech. Sgt. Jill McClarney, NCOIC, Systems Support, Directorate of Personnel Data Systems, is the ARPC spotlight of the week.

Sergeant McClarney has been in the Air Force for 16 years and is from Peoria, Ill.

She said she enjoys golf, mountain biking, volleyball, snowboarding, swimming and scuba diving.

What is your most memorable Air Force experience?

My most memorable would be my assignment to Osan Air Base, South Korea. Specifically, going to the Demilitarized Zone. The trip to the DMZ was amazing enough, but since we were in service dress we attracted a lot of attention from other tourists. It's fantastic and humbling to have U.S. citizens thank you for your service, but it's even more inspiring (and thought-provoking) to have people from other countries extend the same gratitude and kudos. Especially standing on the border of a socialist country.

Why did you join the Air Force?

My dad, who is prior Air Force, wanted me to continue college and my mom wanted me to go to the Air Force Academy. I was tired of taking classes, so I chose the Air Force, enlisted side. My decision was (eventually) approved by all.

If you could change one thing about the Air Force what would it be?

I would require all Airmen, officer and enlisted, be assigned to an overseas location at least once within their enlistment or service commitment.

If you were not in the military, where would you be?

I probably would have joined up with the Peace Corps and traveled the world. It would be eye-opening to see the ways of life of people in developing countries and how Peace Corps volunteers impart knowledge and bring about change for the better.

What would you like to do when you retire?

In the event that I never win the lotto, I would like to work in a consulting firm. Once my son is older, the Peace Corps may again be an option.
