Senior Master Sgt. Robert Poe, Superintendent, Force Development, Directorate of Assignments, is the ARPC Spotlight of the week.

Sergeant Poe is from Casper, Wyo. He has been in the Air Force and Air National Guard for more than 20 years.

Sergeant Poe began his career spending four years at Chanute Air Force Base, Ill.

In 1992, he transferred to the Air National Guard, where he's served as a traditional Guardsman, Air Reserve Technician and Active Guard and Reserve in the Wyoming and Florida ANG.

Sergeant Poe said he enjoys most outdoor activities and is active in his son's Cub Scout pack. He also enjoys golfing, camping, fishing and running. His goal is to run two half marathons this summer.

What is your most memorable Air Force experience?

My most memorable Air Force experience was being a transition team member with the Florida ANG. We transitioned the Southeast Air Defense Sector, Tyndall AFB, Fla. from the active Air Force to the Florida ANG in 1995-1997. Then, in 2005 and 2006 we transitioned the same unit from an Air Defense Sector to America's Air Operation Center.

Why did you join the Air Force?

I initially joined the Air Force for college tuition money. However, after separation from the Air Force in 1992, I missed the professional structure and discipline that Airmen have in the workplace.

If you could change one thing about the Air Force what would it be?

The one thing I would allow as a senior leader, is Title 10 ANG personnel to volunteer for deployments much easier. Right now, we are unable to deploy, except under unique circumstances. I believe we have numerous Guardsmen in this active category that would be the first to raise their hands to deploy.

If you were not in the military, where would you be?

If I didn't join the Air Force, I could see myself in my hometown working with my good high school friends in the field of concrete.

What would you like to do when you retire?

I am approaching retirement and plan to be employed in some way or another in Colorado. Otherwise, you will find me employed at a local golf course.
