Officials offer one-on-one career brief inventory Published Dec. 5, 2008 By Mike Molina Editor DENVER -- Human resources officials at the Air Reserve Personnel Center are offering federal civilian employees a one-on-one inventory of their career briefs. Beginning in January, officials at ARPC will notify civilian employees about the opportunity to review and discuss their individual career brief with an HR specialist. The inventory sessions are voluntary, and notifications and appointments will occur according to the employee's birth month. "This inventory will give employees an opportunity to ask questions about their career brief, and have a personnel specialist review it with them," said Michelle Verges, personnel office assistant in ARPC's human resources office. The new service is aimed at keeping ARPC civilians knowledgeable of career information and resources, Ms. Verges said. "It's in the best interest of the employee to do this," she said. "Some people have tried to deal with issues and questions on their own. This is their opportunity to get the one-on-one assistance they might need." The inventory sessions will be scheduled for 30 minutes to one hour, based on what the employee needs, Ms. Verges said. "Some employees may have very few questions, others might want us to review documents and be a second set of eyes for them," she said. The HR office has compiled a checklist of items that can be reviewed during the inventory. They include: basic employee data, education, awards, appraisals, training history, current position data, experience, and emergency contact information. All inventories will also include a discussion of the Standard Form 50, the form used to document a change during a civilian employee's career. "Good preparation is half the battle," she said. "It's better to know now than find yourself at a loss later."
