Combined Federal Campaign runs through Nov. 15 at ARPC Published Oct. 1, 2008 By Mike Molina Editor DENVER -- The 2008-2009 Combined Federal Campaign at the Air Reserve Personnel Center is under way. The active campaign began Oct. 1 and runs through Nov. 15. This year's local campaign co-chairman is Master Sgt. Jerry Dowdy of ARPC's directorate of Mission Support. "This year's CFC slogan is 'Everyday Hero,'" Sergeant Dowdy said. "The theme conveys the image that each of us can be a hero by making a pledge to a CFC supported charity." Last year, federal employees and military personnel in the Denver metro area donated $3.6 million to the hundreds of charities supported by the CFC. ARPC Airmen and civilian employees contributed more than $30,000 during last year's campaign. "The CFC is another chance for each of us to make a difference in the community," Sergeant Dowdy said. The CFC was established in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy. It is the largest workplace charity campaign in the country, and the only charitable solicitation allowed in the federal workplace. Contributions can be made by cash, check or payroll deduction. Donors designate which charities receive their money by filling out a pledge card. On average, one in four federal employees or their dependents benefit from CFC charities each year. The Denver metro CFC Web site is at www.cfcmetrodenver.org.
