Employees at the Air Reserve Personnel Center here can save money getting to work.

ARPC offers the Transportation Incentive Program, which provides tax-free subsidies to employees who use mass transit to get to and from work.

"It's an awesome benefit that the government gives us," said Chief Master Sgt. Valerie Pryor, MS, who lives in Elizabeth, Colo., and rides in a van pool with several co-workers.

Employees can receive up to $115 per month in transportation vouchers toward commuting costs. Eligible participants include active duty military and federal civilian employees at ARPC.

Chief Pryor said her out-of-pocket commuting costs are a little more than $25 per month.

"Anybody who can take advantage of this and doesn't is shortchanging themselves," she said.

Participants must use public transportation or a commercial van pool to be eligible for the program.

Public transportation includes the Regional Transportation District's buses, light rail, and Access-A-Ride. Van poolers must have a minimum of seven passengers registered in the program.

"You can save money on gas, save wear and tear on your car, relax and read a book, and maybe meet some new people," said Jacqui Harper, ARPC's Transportation Incentive Program manager. "If you can do it, you should."

Applications for the program can be found on the intranet by clicking on "Info and News" under the "Civilian" tab along the left side of the home page.

Transportation vouchers are given to participants quarterly. Ms. Harper said applications should be submitted by Aug. 8, to receive vouchers for the fourth quarter beginning Oct. 1.
