Change to Captains Promotion Process -- Starting in Fiscal 2009, the Air Reserve Component will consider eligible first lieutenants in all competitive categories for promotion to captain twice a year. Under the previous promotion guidelines, eligible officers were considered for promotion annually. This change will allow first lieutenants transferring from extended active duty to the Air Reserve Component an opportunity to compete for promotion to captain in a timelier manner, help eliminate delays of pin-on and minimize the number of special selection boards, among other benefits.

The first list will cover first lieutenants with dates of rank between Oct. 1, 2006 and March 31, 2007 with the earliest projected pin-on of Oct. 1, 2008. The second list will cover dates of rank between April 1, 2007 and Sept. 30, 2007 with earliest projected pin-on of April 1, 2009. For further guidance, please contact Reserve of the Air Force Selection Board Secretariat experts at 1-800-525-0102.
