Lt. Col. Allison Lynch considers herself a middle-distance runner. Running a marathon is out of the question, she says.

On Sunday, however, Colonel Lynch and four other Airmen from the Air Reserve Personnel Center teamed up to run the Colorado Colfax Marathon as a relay team.

After seeing an e-mail about the upcoming marathon, Colonel Lynch says she noticed there was a relay event. That's when she started asking around for teammates.

"It was totally word-of-mouth," she said about gathering the team.

The Airmen split the 26.2-mile race into five legs - two 10-kilometer runs, two 5-kilometer runs and a 12-kilometer fi nish.

"I got a great sense of accomplishment that I was a part of a team that ran a marathon," Colonel Lynch said. "I would defi nitely do this again."

The race course began at Aurora Sports Park, traveled west along Colfax Avenue through Denver, and finished at Colorado Mills Mall in Lakewood.

Senior Airman Mary Graham, DPA, who ran the third stretch of the relay - a 6.2-mile leg - said it was a great experience.

"I like to be involved in team activities," she said. "It was fun being a part of a team, supporting each other.
