The Headquarters Individual Reservist Readiness and Integration Organization welcomed the newest member of its leadership team, Ms. Selby Redman, when she reported for duty, Dec. 18.

Redman will serve as the director of operations for HQ RIO, the organization responsible for managing the Air Force Reserve's individual reserve force.

The new DO is also a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserve and hails from the 440th Airlift Wing, Pope Field, North Carolina, where she previously served as the Force Support Squadron commander and is currently the special assistant to the mission support group. In that position she is helping with the inactivation of the unit and the logistics of finding new assignments for the 1,200 reservists and 400 Air Reserve Technicians and civilians assigned there.

Prior to her time at Pope Field, Redman served at Headquarters Air Force, where she worked Reserve Policy and Integration, writing legislation and advocating for new law on Capitol Hill. In all of these positions, she was charged with building new programs, a skill certain to come in handy as she takes on her responsibilities at HQ RIO.

"Ms. Redman's unique experiences and expertise gained during her time on the Air Staff and as the FSS commander at one of our more dynamic locations will make our organization even stronger," said Col. Christopher E. Cronce, HQ RIO commander.

As the DO, Redman will oversee the reserve pay office, the orders writing cell, the Individual Mobilization Augmentee Travel Office, the medical section, plans and programs and the newly-established integration cell.

She will focus on personnel processes so the HQ RIO commander can focus on working with the detachments and with higher headquarters. To help explain this command structure, Redman likened herself to a traditional air wing vice commander, who would typically be responsible for the "cats-and-dogs" wing-level programs, like finance and travel, freeing the commander up to focus on other issues.

Redman also plans to ensure the new programs are built correctly, from the ground up.

"As we transition Individual Reservists to using the HQ RIO RPO and establish the new integration cell, I want to ensure provide top-notch service to our customers," she said.

Cronce said Redman's number one priority will be to help lead the organization and assist in increasing the leadership abilities and capabilities of the headquarters staff.

"As we continue to fill vacant positions and train new staff on duties and responsibilities, she will help our headquarters mature," said Cronce.
