Air Reserve Personnel Center commander Col. Samuel C. "Bo" Mahaney was promoted to brigadier general in a simple ceremony here Feb. 14, 2014..

Assigned to ARPC since November, Mahaney was notified Dec. 20 his approval by the senate for his promotion to a one-star general. With his wife, Christine, son, U.S. Marine Corps 2nd Lt. Samuel Mahaney Jr., and daughter, Jessica, the commander thanked Maj. Gen. (ret.) John Dorris for swearing him into his new rank, and center staff for their support and hard work.

He also explained to the staff where the most important of his four tenets of leadership came from.

"Now, there's another good piece of advice that I've gotten over the years from a man that we know as 'Dogfish,' or 'Cool Rubber' - (Major) General (Lt. Col.) James Rubeor," said Mahaney. "Now, he always said, 'take care of your people, they will take care of the mission,' and I've adopted that. Now Lt. Col. James W. McIntyre, III, will say he came up with that slogan. It's a good slogan, and I've always liked to use it, and I've always liked to live by it."

Mahaney was promoted after being awarded the legion of merit award. For the video on this story, visit the main ARPC website at www.arpc.afrc.af.mil.
