With the national anthem being played on electric guitar, combined with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and breakfast burritos, the early morning meeting of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce Defense Council was underway here April 23.

Brig. Gen. Samuel “Bo” Mahaney, Air Reserve Personnel Center commander, along with breakfast staff from the Hilton Garden Inn, hosted this month’s Defense Council meeting at ARPC.

Showcasing his talent, Capt. Adam Ertsey, ARPC assignment facilitator, played the national anthem on his electric guitar, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance as Lisa Buckley, Defense Council chair, started the meeting.

Defense Council is a committee of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce that is dedicated to building greater understanding between military and business communities in the local area. The committee is comprised of local business and military leaders and public servants to provide for the integration of military personnel into the local community.

As part of his presentation, Mahaney said, “We at ARPC have a clear vision and a focused mission which guide both our tactical and strategic decisions. But to successfully execute against these grand ideas we need good people. The professionals here at ARPC more than meet the standard - they go above and beyond, every single day.”

The meeting hosted more than 80 people and included updates from base partner commanders, local and state representatives and video presentation by Mahaney.
