Air Reserve Personnel Center first sergeant, Senior Master Sgt. John Neeley, recently co-led the annual first sergeant symposium held here April 21-24, 2015, at the 140th Wing Colorado Air National Guard facility.

Leading the course alongside Neeley were Master Sgt. Jeremy Murphy, 566th Intelligence Squadron outgoing shirt, Master Sgt. Peggee Larkin, 566 IS incoming shirt, and Master Sgt. Christopher Smith, 460th Space Communications Squadron.

“It was great to take part in educating future first sergeants one last time before I retire,” Neeley said. “This course ensures NCOs and senior NCOs are appropriately trained in the business of taking care of Airmen, advising commanders on critical personnel issues and executing the Air Force mission.”

According to Air Force Instruction 36-2113, the First Sergeant Academy develops and maintains curriculum for an additional duty first sergeant symposium for each component. The target audience primarily includes senior NCOs who are appointed to serve as the additional duty first sergeant.

The symposium also featured a chiefs panel held on the final day, which offered a total force perspective. This portion was hosted by Chief Master Sgt. Ruthe Flores, ARPC command chief, and Chief Master Sgt. Jim Hoefs, 140th Wing Colorado Air National Guard command chief.
