The Air Force Personnel Center will host a Facebook live chat Aug. 4, 1:30-2 p.m. Central Daylight Time, to answer questions about the Career Intermission Program.

Approved in the 2009 National Defense Authorization Act, the program allows selected high-performing active duty and career status active Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve members to take one, two or three years of partially-paid time out of uniform and seamlessly return to their military role. This is the second year the Air Force has implemented the program, and applications will be accepted through Aug. 31.

In addition to AFPC, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard subject matter experts and personnel specialists will be online during the Facebook live chat to explain component-unique requirements and processes and answer participants' questions.

"CIP is a unique retention tool that provides top performing Airmen the opportunity to meet personal or professional needs outside the service," said Capt. Diana Pena, Air Force Personnel Center. Participants benefit because they don't have to choose to walk away from their careers and the Air Force benefits because we are able to retain talented Airmen, which we would otherwise lose."

A Total Force selection panel is slated to convene late September to select up to 20 Total Force officers and 20 Total Force enlisted members for the program.

"We can answer questions and concerns from Airmen interested in the program during the Facebook chat," Pena said.
