ARPC observes POW/MIA Recognition Day, AF 68th birthday

In recognition of National POW/MIA Recognition Day, Col. Sean McElhaney Pahia, Air Reserve Personnel Center vice commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Ruthe Flores, ARPC command chief, spoke to service members and employees here before cutting two ceremonial cakes Sept. 18, 2015.

Kyle Goldberg, budget systems analyst, Nikki Johnson, promotion eligibility human resources assistant , Tech. Sgt. Julia Benson, assistant personnel systems manager, and Senior Airman Marqui King, reserve assignment technician, cut a ceremonial cake honoring each event.

The Air Force, which marked its 68th year, was formed as a separate branch of the military Sept. 18, 1947, under the National Security Act of 1947.

National POW/MIA Recognition Day is observed around the world on military installations, ships, in state capitals, schools and veterans' facilities on the third Friday in September each year. According to the Defense Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office, more than 83,000 Americans are missing from World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War, the Vietnam War and the 1991 Gulf War.
