Awards

This award is named in honor of the late General and Mrs. Jerome F. O'Malley, former commander, Tactical Air Command. It recognizes the wing commander and spouse team whose contributions to the nation, the Air Force, and the local community best exemplify the highest ideals and positive leadership of a military couple serving in a key Air Force position. The military member must have served as a wing commander at least six months during the award period and must have at least two years retainability to be eligible for consideration.

The period of service for the award is Jan. 1, 2017 - Dec. 31, 2017.

Nominations must include specific acts and examples that identify the couple as leaders and spokespersons for the Air Force. 

Write-up - 

A write-up, limited to 18 lines (including headers, if applicable, are to stand alone from the bullets), single-spaced, size 12- point font, using only the AF Form 1206, nomination for award (MUST USE THE CURRENT AF FORM 1206 VERSION THAT IS ON E-PUBS). Bullet format is mandatory. Use the lead-off topics cited in the above paragraphs 4a-4c. Only common acronyms known throughout the Air Force will be authorized, (i.e.; AF, USAFE, ACC, CC, TDY, NCO). 

Ensure the write-up focuses on what the nominees did as a team and the results of their accomplishments as a team. Be sure the write-up focuses equally on the contributions made by the spouse. Include specific examples in the following areas:

  • Leadership: Cite innovation and ingenuity in problem-solving and in developing systems, programs, and ideas that positively impacted on the mission, morale, and welfare of Air Force or wing activities and personnel. The leadership abilities of both the wing commander and spouse must clearly demonstrate professionalism, integrity, morality, and excellence in inspiring others by personal example, conduct and character
  • Positive and articulate spokespersons for the Air Force: Show how the couple projected leadership into the local community as evidenced by the wing commander's and spouse's assumption of leadership roles and participation in social, cultural, religious, and other wing or community service activities
  • Other accomplishments: List other achievements or accomplishments which set the wing commander and the spouse apart from others of similar responsibilities. Include unique contributions to the nation, Air Force, wing, base, or community

Public Release Statement - A Public release statement addressed to Air Force Personnel Center Recognition Programs Section (AFPC/DP1SP): Nominee must sign a public release statement that reads verbatim "I do or do not (circle one) agree to the use of Privacy Act information in the nomination narrative. This information may include Privacy Act information or personally identifiable information found in Air Force Instruction 33-332, Air Force Privacy and Civil Liberties Program, Chapter two, Privacy Act. I understand those transmitting personal information via email will exercise caution and adequately safeguard it in accordance with AFI 33-332, paragraph's 2.5. and subparagraphs. The announcement message or any publicity regarding the award nomination will contain no privacy act information other than name, rank, and base of assignment." The nominee must sign and date this statement. 

Endorsement Letter - An endorsement letter signed by the MAJCOM/COCOM/FOA/DRU commander, vice commander, or executive director stating that validation with the nominee's unit was accomplished ensuring that the nominee does not have any derogatory information, also stating verbatim that: “A review of the official personnel record was conducted on (date) and revealed no information that would bring discredit to the award or the United States Air Force during the award period.” 

Biography - A “joint” biography, limited to one single-spaced typewritten page. 

Citation - A citation limited to no less than 50 and no more than 70 words (not including opening and closing statements). The citation should include specific examples of the act or services provided. Acronyms are not authorized in the citation.

The Noncommissioned Officers Association (NCOA) Vanguard Award is sponsored by the NCOA, which recognizes a noncommissioned officer from each of the military services who has performed a heroic act, on or off duty, which resulted in the saving of life or the prevention of serious injury.

The Period of the award is Jan. 1 - Dec. 31, 2018

Criteria

  • Nominee must be serving on active duty or as a member of the Reserve or National Guard in a branch of Uniformed Services of the United States of America during the period of the time of heroic act is performed.
  • Nominee that meets criteria must have served in pay grades E-1 through E-9 during the period of time the act is performed
  • Nominee must be serving on active duty at the time the award is presented at the Annual Convention.
  • Act for which nominee is to be recognized must be voluntary action initiated by nominee and not a result of directions or orders.
  • Act for which nominee is to be recognized must be an action performed to save life or prevent serious injury to another person or persons.
  • Action performed by nominee must have brought credit to the individual, his or her service, and the enlisted community of the Uniformed Services of the United States of America.
  • Act for which nominee is to be recognized must have occurred within the previous calendar year.

Refer to AFI 36-2805, Special Trophies and Awards, Attachment 3, for format. **Note: Acronyms are not authorized in the citation.

This Air Force Association (AFA) award recognizes the significant contributions made by non-military spouses of Air Force military members. The nominee's husband or wife must be serving in the Air Force (Active Duty, Guard, or Reserve). The award period is Jan. 1 - Dec. 31, 2018. Nominations will include facts and specific accomplishments that clearly state the individual's contributions to the Air Force, to include specific examples in any of the following areas:

  • Participation in Base and Community Activities
  • Articulate and Influential Spokesperson for the Air Force
  • Voluntary Service in Air Force-related Organizations and Activities
  • Contributions to the States or to the Nation
  • Moral and Religious Leadership
  • Contributions to the Resolution of Contemporary Social Problems
  • Membership in Professional, Civic, or Cultural Organizations
  • Self-Improvement Efforts
  • Leadership and Other Accomplishments

Nomination Package

Biography - A biography, limited to one single-spaced typewritten page (see AFI 36-2805, Attachment 2, for format). The Social Security number as reflected in Attachment 2, is no longer required.

This award is named in honor of Bob Hope and is presented for outstanding service to the United States of America. It is awarded to men, women, and organizations of the United States Armed Forces, entertainers, and other distinguished Americans and organizations whose patriotism and service reflect Bob Hope’s service. The Spirit of Hope Award is presented annually to one nominee (either an individual or an organization) from each of the following: The Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Army, the Navy, the Marine Corps, the Air Force, and the Coast Guard.

Nominees must exhibit the following criteria:

  • Epitomizes the values of Mr. Hope: duty, honor, courage, loyalty, commitment, integrity and selfless dedication.
  • Significantly enhances the quality of life of service members and their families serving around the world.
  • Selflessly contributes an extraordinary amount of time, talent, or resources to benefit members of the United States Armed Forces.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Active Duty, Reserve, Guard, former military members, or civilians who embody the values of freedom, the constitution of the United States of America and the military.
  • Individuals or organizations having a commercial or profit-making contractual relationship with the Department of Defense (DoD), or with a DoD component, may be eligible to receive the award provided the following are true:
    • The contribution is clearly and substantially outside what is specified or implied within the terms of the contract establishing the relationship.
    • The recognition is clearly in the public interest.
  • C. This award may be presented posthumously.
  • Foreign nationals may receive the Spirit of Hope Award provided they meet the criteria listed in paragraph one. Before approval of the award, the nominating commander shall coordinate with the appropriate U.S. Embassy to ensure the award is consistent with the overall interests of the United States. The commander initiating the recommendation of this award to a foreign national shall:
    • Request the pertinent military counter intelligence organization to conduct a counter intelligence records check in conjunction with the initiation of the award recommendation.
    • Request the director, Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), review the award recommendation, and conduct counter intelligence and biographic file checks to ensure the foreign national has committed no act or engaged in any activity wherein the awarding of the Spirit of Hope Award would cause an embarrassment to the United States, and further request the director provide a statement of concurrence or non-concurrence.
  • The period of service for the award is 1 January 2018 thru 31 December 2018 or a multi-year or lifetime contribution (e.g. contribution took more than a year to complete or contribution took place over their lifetime).

Show how the nominee selflessly contributed an extraordinary amount of time, talent, or resources to benefit members of the United States Armed Forces. Documentation to support the write-up is optional.
  • A statement of concurrence by the U.S. Chief of Mission and the U.S. Defense Attaché (if one is assigned) to the country of the foreign national nominee.
    H. A statement of concurrence from the DIA (for foreign national nominees).
